Login failure on Release

I switched from ESR to Release yesterday morning, and everything was fine for the rest of that day. But today, about 4 hours after opening Thunderbird, I've started getting login failure messages for my secondary email address. The popup says: "Login to account "maggie.jacobs@sonic.net" failed. Login to server pop.sonic.net with user name maggie.jacobs failed." I have retried multiple times but keep getting this message.

Release is set to check for messages every 10 minutes. I did not make any changes from ESR, and did not get login failure messages yesterday. I also didn't receive any emails for that address; as I said, this is a secondary address not used often. Connection security on this account is STARTTLS, unlike my primary account which is SSL/TLS. Authentication method is Normal password.

Because this started happening 24 hours after I installed Release, I suspect there has been an update to Release this morning which has caused a misconfiguration. Does anybody have any idea what is happening and how I can fix it? I will get your email responses, as they will come to my primary account which is still functioning.

Recently Thunderbird quit working with my RCN email account - outgoing server timed out

This has been working for years but my last sent message was 4/27/2024. Obviously I don't use the account much!

Server smtp.rcn.com is OK and I tried both ports that RCN said should work. Connection security SSL/TLS (I tried others). Authentication method - encrypted password (I tried others). Username should be OK too - my name before the @rcn.com. That has been that way for a long time.

Any ideas? I can receive emails just fine.

I am on the latest release. 139.0.1 (64-bit)

Hello, i am not sure if this is the right place for my Question:

I love to use Thunderbird but in some moments the handling is quite confusing oder buggy. I don't know if i may do think wrong.

I do get Mails from other people with other styling Formats (e.g. Calibri Font from Outlook) and i always use arial. If i copy a text from an mail with other format, put it in my mail with the command "Paste Text without format" it does not always work. E.g. is the visual in my Editor often in Arial but when i send the mail, then i see in my sended mails that the font switched back to calibri. I thought the "Paste Text without format" option will delet the format of the inserted Text and using the default mail format which i defined in my settings?

Its annoing cause i always produce Mails with different styles in it. I am using the latest ESR Version.

This morning an email from my inbox accidentally went into my deleted box. I have always been able to click on "More" and been able to move it back into my inbox. Today "More" had new options and moving to another location was not one of them. What happened? I often click 'delete' by mistake and have to move it back to where I really meant the email to go.

Open the Settings application by pressing and releasing the Windows Start button, then clicking the gear icon. 2. Click the Apps icon, then click Default Apps in the list. 3. Click the icon under the heading Email to show your choices. 4. Select Thunderbird. The trouble is that at n. 3 there is no choice. Need help with Thunderbird. No matter what I tried always comes back to the same problem.

Problem: Keep getting message non responding. Very buggy, difficult deleting emails (will delete after a prolong period of time > 5 sec). When typing a message there will be no characters then after a short period of time the charterer typed shows up. Sometime without and reason while using Thunderbird it close by itself.

What I have down to solve the problem: 1. Start in safe mode Thunderbird operates as expected with any issues. 2. Win 10 environment, closed all apps and made sure there was no extensions running. Made sure the only app open on the task manger was Thunderbird. NO SOLUTION FOUND 3. Download and install latest version of Thunderbird. NO SOLUTION FOUND 4. Created a new profile file. NO SOLUTION FOUND

Need help, what else is there to try short of a total Nuclear solution?

I've been using Tbird for many years for multiple accounts, and I have the junk filter turned on so it's supposed to learn when I mark a message as junk. But I have noticed recently that even when I mark messages as junk, if more of the same come in, they don't get caught by the filter as they ought to be.

  1. Is there a limit after which the filter no longer learns?
  2. It's the same filter, no matter how many accounts, right?
  3. If I UNmark a message accidentally marked as junk, does it reverse that pattern in the filter?
  4. If I highlight a group of unmarked messages and mark them all junk, does it learn from them?

I have used the TbSync and Provider for EAS addons for several years to link my iPhone calendar with Thunderbird. These addons are now no longer compatible with Thunderbird 139.0 and have been disabled. What will replace them, the "Sync" button? If so, it isn't working on my installation. When I click on the "Sync" button in Thunderbird nothing happens. I cannot find a location in either setting or tools to setup "Sync" to do what TbSync & Provider for EAS did.

Hi all, I'm using TB 115.18.0 (64-bit) and I am currently working on finding a solution to automatically back-up my mails from two accounts on regular base. I want to back-up the ImapMail-folder from within the profile-folder; while looking into it I found not only the two folders for the current accounts, but also 3 more, for accounts I had in use a few month ago, when I started to use TB and fiddled with it. As I do not want to waste space with unnecessary Data, my question is: can I safely delete these obsolete folders and their associated .msf-files?

I get the following error message while saving a send message: "Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors."

This is my local PC, so no network error here. So, it most be a file access errors. How do I fix or resolve this issue?

I'm running on Ubuntu version: 24.04.2 LTS

Hi. I have Thunderbird running on two, different computers. The older computer has many emails I'd like to merge on to the newer computer with Thunderbird.

Does anyone know how to do this? All I've been able to find is a solution that overwrites the emails of one or the other profile folders. I'd like to merge.

I am using MacOS 10.13, Thunderbird 115.15.16ESR: my Hotmail worked until 15 May 2025 and then it would not download new emails. Screenshots are available if you want me to post them. I got an error message: "authentication failure while connecting to server outlook.office365.com". I updated Thunderbird to the latest for my OS: 115.18.0ESR. Still no new emails. I deleted my email account on Thunderbird and tried to reinstate it. Now I get an error message when trying to set up the account: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." I tested my password by logging into my Microsoft account with it on my browser. I can also login to my email using Firefox, but I want my Thunderbird email client to work again.

The configuration I am using is: I use my normal hotmail password in the password field. I also set up a new App Password with Microsoft and tried that without success. With the 115.18 update there is a new field: Your login. I just put my hotmail email address in here. incoming: outlook.office365.com, port 993, SSL/TLS, Oauth2 
outgoing: smtp.office365.com, port 587, STARTTLS, Oauth2 (I have also tried: smtp-mail.outlook.com)

I enabled 2-step authentication with Microsoft in my Microsoft account more than a year ago. Interestingly, I don't get a prompt on my iPhone Microsoft Authentication App when I select Done when trying to set up the hotmail account on Thunderbird.

Please help. I am desperate, and I have wasted a lot of time on this without success. Cheers

I am using 64bit Windows 11 Home. This happened suddenly without any changes on my part that I know of.

Thunderbird suddenly started freezeing right after startup. The only thing I can do is login with the master password then the regular thunderbird screen opens, but I cannot click on anything. Soon after the screen is greyed out. However I can close the program down with the red "x" in the top right corner. It opens a dialog that gives me the opens to close down or wait to respond. The close option works.

The only hint I can see from the frozen screen is that the local Folder seems to have a problem as a subfolder has now multiple copies of itself. It seems to create a new copy of that subfolder every time I try to start the program.

So far I tried reinstalling/updating TB, as I assumed an update had maybe malfunctioned, (it was stuck on version 128, since I could not open TB for about a week now) but upgrading to to version 138 did not help. I also tried starting TB in troubleshoot mode, which made no difference I also tried starting TB while windows was in safe mode, which made no difference.

I read around but people that have problems with TB freezing seem to not have the freeze happen before they can do anything.

I assume something is wrong in my profile, maybe the local folder? But I have no idea to fix anything, since I cannot do anything at all in TB.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
