Herzlichen Dank.

I'm having a bit of an issue with moving emails between my accounts in Thunderbird, and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what I'm doing wrong.

When I move an email from one account (let's call it the source) to another (the destination), it seems to only move it locally on my computer. The email appears in the destination folder, but it never actually gets deleted from the source account's server.

If I click on the inbox of the source account again, Thunderbird just re-syncs with the server and downloads the same email all over again. In my mind, when I "move" something, it should be gone from the original location. It feels more like a "copy and then forget to delete" situation.

I'm trying to figure out how to make the "move" action permanent. I want the email to be completely removed from the source account when I move it, not just hidden on my local client until the next sync.

Is there a setting I'm missing, or is this just how Thunderbird handles moving emails between accounts? It's making it a real headache to keep my inboxes organized.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Issue with Microsoft Teams Add-on in Thunderbird when Using Multiple Exchange Accounts

Hi there, I'm experiencing an issue with the Microsoft Teams add-on in Thunderbird, specifically when using it with multiple Microsoft Exchange accounts.

Issue Description:

Previously, I was able to select between accounts using the Teams icon in the toolbar without any problems. However, after switching operating systems, the behavior has changed:

  • When I hover over the Teams icon in the toolbar, the account selection menu appears as expected.
  • As soon as I move the mouse to select an account from the menu, the menu disappears immediately before I can click anything.
  • I've made sure that the mouse doesn't leave the icon or jump erratically, but the menu still vanishes every time.

This only started happening after I changed my OS. On my previous setup, the add-on worked fine.

Fixes Attempted:

  • Removed and re-added the Exchange Accounts
  • Reinstalled the Owl for Exchange add-on
  • Fully uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird, including manually deleting the profile data folder
  • Disabled hardware acceleration

So far, nothing has resolved the issue, and I haven’t found any other reports of this specific behavior online.

The attached image shows the account selection menu when hovering over the teams add-on, but as soon as the mouse moves over to the menu it disappears.

System and Application Details:

  • Thunderbird Version: 139.0.1 (64-bit)
  • Operating System: Kubuntu 25.04
  • Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma 6.3.4
  • Display Manager: X11
  • Kernel Version: 6.14.0-15-generic (64-bit)

Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Some years ago I found it very useful to create group address books within my overall Address Book. However, when I created a new one last week, after first entering two new-to-me contacts into it, I could not find any way to copy other contacts from my general list into the new group. IOW, in order to add OldFriend1. OldFriend2, etc to NewGroup, it seemed that while inside NewGroup I would have to type each of them in, one by one, as if brand new. Right-clicking on OldFriend brought up a menu that offered Edit and Delete, but *not* Copy, let alone "Add to Group." Can it really be true that there's no easy way to simply *add* OldFriend1, etc, to NewGroup without having to create duplicate entries? Thank you!

(Using 115.11.0, 64-bit edition, in the Windows 10 Pro environment.)

I am getting this message when I try to download my gmail emails into Thunderbird:

400. That's an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That's all we know.

The other day Thunderbird stopped downloading emails from gmail. Before that everything worked fine. I have no idea how to correct this error because it is very important I keep getting those emails in Thunderbird.

Please help. Thank you in advance and have a wonderful and joyous day. Be safe and stay healthy.

I used ImportExportTools NG to export messages from one profile and import to another.

I tried to export only selected messages from my one of my local folders (it seemed an option, but IET NG is not intuitive).

Whatever, the import process has created a sub-folder in the local folder of the same name, and there is a huge redundancy (duplication) resulting.

My question: how can I merge the sub-folder into the parent, when dragging and dropping is not allowed?

As everyone using Thunderbird knows, TB folders are displayed in a column down the left side. Four of those folders are named "New Folder With Items" (three with numbers appended to the name). Those folders are empty, and I have no idea how they got there in the first place. I've tried deleting them but they always remain as before. I've attached a screenshot of those folders.

This is not a "serious" problem, just an annoying one. Any ideas how to actually delete those folders?

i know that thunderbird for android works differently than desktop version, that's ok. i ask here to add to thunderbird-android function of backup emails to mbox-file, collect emails from selected server and make backup in mbox file which can than be opened in thunderbird-desktop. i must emphasize, i don't ask that thunderbird-android should be capable of handling mbox-files, this would be pure backup functionality.

I recently installed Thunderbird on a new Windows 11 PC. I am using Thunderbird 128.11.0esr on another machine and it works properly. I attempted to clone my 128 setup onto the new machiine by copying the Profile folder without success. Some settings were transferred, enough so that the inbox was filling with my emails. I tried to send a message. It failed with the message: "Sending of the message failed The message could not be send because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com times out. Try again" As far as I can tell the SMPT server settings are exactly the same on the two setups: Description: Gmail Port: 587 Connection security: STARTTLS Authentication methon: OAuth2 Username TMerrillH Sending GMail using the GMail app works properly. Could it be something in the OAuth2 system?

In composing e-mail text, for effective communications, i helps to be able to identify major divisions of text by using, for examples, ALL UPPERCASE, Title Case." Sentence case (another issue.)

I can't find it on this support site; (nor can your search engine.) It seems an odd oversight for an APP whose raison t'etre is communication.

Any help you can offer will be welcome. There are workarounds but all of them add to an already unacceptable burden of having to work around the workarounds that every Update to any software element of the system, however, minor, tends to generate.

Thanks, Jim R.
